Poker is a skill-based card game that offers several card games, each having its own set of rules to play. It is considered to be the fastest-growing mind sport in India as well as other countries. Winning the game requires a player to display skills, strategy, and wagering on the poker table. Although there are many variations of the game, Texas Hold’em is the most popular among the players. Acehigh is currently offering Texas Holdem and Pot-Limit Omaha on the platform. To learn the rules of Poker, just click Poker Rules.

Texas hold ’em (also known as Texas Holdem, hold ’em, and Holdem) is a variation of the card game of poker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards (“the flop”), later an additional single card (“the turn” or “fourth street”), and a final card (“the river” or “fifth street”). Every player has to seek the best five-card poker hand from any combination of the seven cards of the five community cards and their two hole cards. Players have betting options to check, call, raise, or fold. Rounds of betting take place before the flop is dealt and after each subsequent deal.

Pot-limit Omaha (also known as PLO) is another variant of poker that is famous among poker players. It is more often played high only, but can also be played high-low. In this game, each player is dealt four cards and must make their best hand using exactly two of them, plus exactly three of the five community cards. Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) is a game of drawing, when drawing, to the nut hand. Second-best flushes and straights can be and frequently become, losing hands, especially when a player is willing to commit their entire stack to the pot. Furthermore, because of the exponential growth of the pot size in pot-limit play, seeing one of these hands to the end can be very expensive and carry immense reverse implied odds.

A poker tournament is a tournament where players compete by playing poker. It can feature as few as two players playing on a single table (called a "heads-up" tournament), and as many as tens of thousands of players playing on thousands of tables. The winner of the tournament is usually the person who has the largest stack accumulated by winning all the chips in the game The others are awarded places based on the time of their elimination. To facilitate this, in most tournaments, blinds rise over the duration of the tournament. To learn how to play tournaments on Acehigh,

When a player decides to straddle in Texas Hold 'em or any other poker game, they are putting in twice the big blind before the cards are dealt. Usually, it is the player to the left of the big blind who straddles. All players following must call or raise the amount of the straddle bet.

Blinds are forced bets posted by players to the left of the dealer button. This is maintained so that there is always some prize money in the pot to compete for in a hand. The small blind is placed by the player to the left of the dealer button and the big blind is then posted by the next player to the left. The ratio of bet sizing between the two will always be 1:2. For eg, if the SB is 100. The BB is 200.

Hole Cards are two random face-down cards dealt to each player on a table.

Community Cards are five cards put face-up on the game table. Players use them to make their respective card combinations. A player strives to make a winning card combination using his two Hole Cards and a fixed number of Community Cards (depending on the poker variant he is playing) to make the best five-card combination.

The fold is an act of foregoing the action thinking that the cards dealt by a player are not good enough. This also puts the player out of competition for that very hand.

A Wager is a token amount that acts as a minimum for other players to match in order to remain in the game.

A Call means that a player places an amount equal to the last-placed wager on the table.

When a player Checks, he is consciously declining the option to open the pot from his side and is rather transferring the action to the person sitting to his left. One can Check only when there is no wager in progress at that very instance.

A raise happens when a player increases the amount of the last-placed wager on the table. A player may do it when he has a better card combination or when he is bluffing.

The Showdown phase is the last phase in a game. It means all the active and competing players now show their cards and the player with the best five-card combination is the winner. Please note that this particular phase starts after the placing of the last Raise in the final round called River.
